Brittle Deformation

This section deals with faults which are the main product of brittle deformation. The two presentations: ‘Introduction to faults’ and ‘Terminology of faults’ cover some practical aspects necessary to work with faults and the fault picking exercise gives the chance to practice them.

Normal or reverse? Shows you how to tell if a fault is normal or reverse and you can see a fault in 3D with your own cut-out-and-keep model in the 3D fault model section.

Other activities to try your hand at include a mapping exercise to site a dam and interpreting the geological history of an area.

In addition to these set activities all the answers are available as PowerPoint presentations so that you can change them to suit your own needs and all the seismic images are available as A4 printouts.
